Coronavirus Update

Updated March 12 @ 6p

Dear Mariners,

As you know our community, state, and nation are deeply and rightly concerned about the Coronavirus. As Christians, we also struggle in these times with the pain of living in this fallen world, a world plagued with viruses and fear. But as Christians, we grieve as people with hope. In times of crisis and challenge, we are able to comfort others because Christ has comforted us. In times of chaos, we are able to rest on the consistency we have in Jesus.

In light of the directive from our governor, Mariners Church is suspending all ministry gatherings and events through the end of March. By not gathering we are serving our community and caring for the vulnerable among us–those who are most susceptible to this disease.

While we are suspending our physical gatherings, we are NOT suspending our mission!

First, we’ll continue to shepherd and teach for our church, for you. And here is how:

— We’ll keep worshipping together (online). We’re expanding our online access to make it easier for you to join us during our regular weekend service times, Sat 5p and Sun 8:30, 10, and 11:30a.

Here’s how you can access our livestream:

Mariners Website

From MarinersChurch.org select Live Stream during one of our regular service times. To view our sermon archives click Watch in the main menu.

YouTube

You can access YouTube on any mobile device, smartphone or cast from your TV

  1. From any browser, smartphone, smart TV or other device open the YouTube application and search Mariners Church. Or click here.
  2. Click on the video at the very top to start watching the livestream which you can view during any of our regular service times.

— We will keep praying for you.

God has given us an incredible prayer ministry, and our volunteers and pastors are here and ready to pray for you. If you’re in need of prayer, for any reason, you can receive prayer from our pastors and elders by calling 949-769-8372 or email [email protected]

— We will keep investing in kids and families.

We’re launching an online Family Worship service Tuesday nights for you to worship together as a family. We’ll have activities, games, and devotions available for you to download through the Mariners Kids Facebook Group, and will be broadcasting this family service complete with worship, fun, and a message from me and our Kids Ministry through our website and Youtube Channels. (instructions above)

— We will keep investing in your students.

Junior High and High School Youth Nights will be broadcasting an interactive online youth experience on Wednesday nights. It will be an energetic, fun, spiritually challenging, student-specific program.

Second, we are going to serve our community and world.

As God’s people, we are to care for the vulnerable and hurting. Christ has called us the light of the world and the salt of the earth.

— We are serving in Orange County.

Our Lighthouse Community Centers and Thrift Store will continue meeting the needs of our communities.

We are stocking our food pantry and preparing mobile units to address food insecurity issues that may arise for our Lighthouse and Foster Group Homes, as some of the children and families rely on school breakfast and lunch for their daily meals. We would love for you to join us in this effort! Click here to download the Food Pantry shopping list.

And we are working with local fire and police departments to provide sanitation kits for people facing homelessness who are particularly vulnerable in situations like this, and will continue to engage city and community leaders to determine the best way we can support them moving forward.

— We are serving globally.

Because of your generosity as a church, we have been able to respond to the immediate needs of our partners around the world. We’ve been able to support our partners in Asia and Germany to purchase care packages for a children’s home that include masks and a hot meal, and deploy medical professionals to communities in need. Our International Students ministry created and distributed care packages for UCI students through our campus partners, including ramen, wipes, snacks, and an encouraging love note.

I love you Mariners Church and am so grateful to be here with you in the midst of this season.

We will continue to update information here.

In Christ,

Eric Geiger
