2020 not only announces a new year but a new decade filled with opportunities, resolutions and aspirations. This time of year allows us to reflect on our lives and set goals to move us closer to the life Jesus intended for us. Here are 5 things you can incorporate into your new year rhythm to ensure 2020 is a year of growth, community and fruitfulness alongside the Mariners family.
1. Spend time in God’s Word daily
Encounter the living God each day as you make reading your Bible a daily rhythm.
Join Mariners as we reflect on God’s Word together through New Morning Mercies–a daily gospel devotional designed to remind you of God’s goodness, faithfulness and good plan for your life. Spend 5 minutes a day enjoying this practical, applicable and transformational work as you continue to grow in Christ’s image.

2. Meet with your church family weekly
“And let us watch out for one another to provoke love and good works, not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24-25
Meeting regularly as the church reminds us of God’s plan, grounds us in His Word, and connects us to Him and others in worship. Our latest message series, NEW, is the perfect time to commit to the weekend services. At the start of the year, we’re surrounded by promises of “new”–new products, relationships and resolutions all claiming to completely change our lives. But eventually the new fades and we begin searching for even more new things. It’s an endless cycle, but God promises to end the search by offering us a new that never grows old. Join us weekends in January to discover the new God has in store for you.
3. Connect your life to other believers
Being in community is one of the most vital ways we grow as Christians because the people we connect with encourage us, pray for us, and join us as we study and apply God’s work to our lives.
One of the best ways to begin your small group journey is to sign up for our winter session of Rooted, a 10-week experience designed to help you learn more about God, the church and your purpose in unexpected, life-changing ways.
If you’ve already completed Rooted and are looking for consistent community, start your year off right and find the perfect group to fit your needs, interests and life stage. Open groups are waiting for you.
4. Fill your life with worship
I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praises will always be on my lips. Psalm 34:1
Fill your moments in the car, at home and at work with worship music curated by our Mariners Worship Team. Enjoy these uplifting songs and set your hearts on Him every day.
5. Grow your faith with your family
“Imprint these words of mine on your hearts and minds, bind them as a sign on your hands, and let them be a symbol on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” Deut. 11: 18-19
We have so many exciting events designed to help your kids and students grow in the new year!
- Kids Weekend Programming
We love kids. That’s why we designed a fun, interactive space just for them. With music, games, activities and storytelling, kids learn from the Bible and about God’s love every week. Our kids church service runs at the same time as the adult service. With programs for ages 0 to 5th grade and of all abilities, each child is taught in an age-appropriate, loving environment.
- Doug Fields in Junior High
Don’t let your junior high students miss out on Doug Fields’ message series, RESET: Jesus, Fresh Starts & Screaming Goats. Enjoy a wild time of fun, friends, laughter, games, prizes and a deeper look at Jesus alongside adult volunteers who will love and invest in your junior higher.
- Youth Culture Weekend
We’re inviting high school students to join us for a weekend to get excited about the Church, have tons of fun, hear messages that are impactful and relevant, and worship that is powerful and energetic.
