This weekend, we start our summer message series, How to Be Happy, where we will be exploring the Beatitudes and the surprising ways Jesus offers us more fulfilling happiness. So, we thought we’d provide a list of some great suggestions for how you can make your summer memorable with friends and family!
1. Take up a new summer hobby
Irvine offers many dance, cooking, art and other amazing classes throughout the summer for kids and adults. It’s a great opportunity to improve a talent, find a new hobby or get out and meet new people.
2. Vans US Open of Surfing
July 27 – Aug 5
Orange County is home to Huntington Beach, fondly called Surf City, which hosts the Vans US Open of Surfing. The US Open showcases some of the world’s best surfing, along with skateboarding and BMX competitions, and other unparalleled entertainment. Check out their calendar of events to plan your time!
3. Ride bikes from the Balboa Peninsula to Huntington Beach
This one comes from Eric’s list of the top 5 date spots in Orange County, and it’s worth mentioning again. Nothing says summer quite like bikes, beach and a beautiful view. Be sure to pack some sunscreen and a sandwich or two, and enjoy a day on the beach after!
4. OC Fair
July 12 – Aug 11
The OC Fair opened this past Friday and it has all the classic fun of fairs. Farm animals, entertainment, contests, rides and more kinds of food than you can imagine. The menu alone is packed with great treats like a Hot Cheetos and Cheese Turkey Leg, Cinnamon Maple Bacon Bombs, Waffle Pizza and other great options for the foodie in you. Tip: buy a ticket to a show at the Pacific Amphitheater and enjoy fair admission with it!
5. Summer Saturday Nights
We might be biased, but this one is pretty great! Every Saturday after our 5p service we host fun events that include games, movies, food trucks or live music! Bring your kids, or your friends, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. It’s a great way to free up your Sunday mornings, serve our community by making more room for guests checking us out on Sundays to experience the community Mariners is known for.
