2. SHELLY'S MESSAGE: STORMS

shellyWhen was the last time you were in a storm? It is interesting how they make their presence known sometimes with advance notice and sometimes with no notice at all. The other day my son informed me that he is praying for a storm. I thought it an odd thing for a thirteen year old to mention. Upon inquiring as to why, he answered that it was because you can find the best stuff on the beach after a storm. He is thinking ahead to a trip he is going on where he is hoping to find an old coin washed up from a sunken ship on the beach in Florida.

I have to admit, I never pray for storms, but they always come. They come in the atmospheric realm, as well as the spiritual realm and relational realm of my life. I was recently on the Sea of Galilee and was reminded of how Jesus handles the storms of my life.

“Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord save us! We’re going to drown!” Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then He got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly all was calm.” Matthew 8:23-25

How many times I am reminded that when I face the storms of my life, I try to endure them, outlast them, I run in fear from them. When will I remember to not be afraid and have enough faith in God to remember that He is the One I must run to for comfort, protection and strength in the storms? As my son reminds me, I too often find treasures after the storms in my life are gone. In the calm I see how God provided for me, never left me or abandoned me and how I better reflect His love. Remember to cling to Him and know He will bring calm to the storms you may be facing!

I hope to see you at one of our summer Bible studies, or on Saturday night while I’m having dinner with my family, or volunteering for one of our many summer events!

Blessings,
Shelly Juskiewicz, Pastor to Women

FATHER'S DAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

This weekend is Father’s Day and we feel so blessed to be able to honor the Father’s in our church with some free Root Beer Floats and Sundaes. We are also planning some other fun activities for the men in conjunction with our “Man vs Wild” theme. However, I am currently short on volunteers for both Saturday and Sunday. If you are available to help us honor our dads in any way, it would be greatly appreciated.
