2. SHELLY'S MESSAGE: A NEW YEAR!

shellyAs I drive home from the gym every morning I am always captivated by the magnificence of the sunrise. It is how God says good morning to me everyday. It is new and different every morning. And in some profound way it reminds me of how relational God is and how He reaches out to reveal His love to me daily. This morning the blue sky had wisps of clouds that were pink and orange as they were back lit by the sun coming up over the hills. Each day God greets me in a different way and it brings a smile to my face and warmth to my heart. As we enter into a new year I am filled with new hope and anticipation of what God has planned for me on this leg of my journey with Him. I have my usual list of things I think I need to focus on, but this year I am leaving room and asking God what He wants me to experience with Him that is new and different. How will He meet me? What will we see and experience together that are part of His plan? I have a sense it is in relationships with others that God wants to do the most work in my life.

Our world is filled with so much wonder and joy in its beauty, but what truly matters to me are the people that we get to share it with. I have a profound sense of this as I think of this year being my daughters last full year at home before going to college. I think of this as I have just spent the last week in the mountains snow boarding with my son and knowing it is only out of love and devotion to me that he hangs out with me on the mountain as I am not as fast and daring as he is. I think of this as my sister has recently been contemplating moving to another state. I think of this as I have dear friends facing horrendous battles with illness. My hope is that in this New Year, the people in my life will know how special they are to me and that God will give us special memories together that we will treasure. Life seems to slip by if we are not intentional about what we do and how we spend each day. God is relational and He daily reaches out to me. May I learn from Him and reach out to those around me.

John 3:16 For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.

Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus replied, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: “Love your neighbor as yourself. The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

What are your dreams for this year? How will you live out God’s Word in your life? This year I desire that my relationship with God will grow closer and that I might trust in Him more as I seek to find the path He has for me. This year I desire that the people that I love would know how much I love them not merely by my words, but by my actions and the time we get to spend together.

Blessings for a wonderful 2010,
