“My best friend and I have been in a small group for three years. You know - we’re not partying, we’re trying to be nice to new kids, not gossip, and have good boundaries with our boyfriends. It’s like the ‘church environment’ has gotten to us way more than we realized.”

– Mariners High School Ministry Student
“I was alone – I didn’t know anyone.” Jackie didn’t attend the student weekend programs, but did show up to join a small group last year. She wasn’t sure she’d fit in with a group of girls who’d known each other for years. But the girls embraced her, making her feel loved and accepted. Jackie began to open up. The group continued to invite her to the weekend program, and finally, after months in her small group, Jackie agreed to go. Sensing the group’s concern about her feeling afraid, she confidently said, “Don’t worry, I’m not nervous. Now, people know me.”

Today, Jackie is a High School ministry leader, helping other students connect at Mariners.
