"God has been incredibly faithful to our church. As
we look ahead, I believe He’s now
calling us to step up
and engage a specific, but often overlooked group –
our students. We need to go where they are and love
them like Jesus does.
This will be no small challenge. It will move us out of our comfort zone and change our minds, our hearts, and our campus. I believe there are three things that are significant as we move forward. First, we want to be the right church – one that welcomes students and says, “you’re important to us and we value you.” Second, I believe we have the right staff – paid and volunteer – who love students and are committed, encouraging leaders. Third, I believe we have the right building. It’s a building that’s edgy, fun and relevant, designed specifically as a place where students will feel comfortable hanging out. While the world shouts at students, the Student Center building – and the people in it – will respond back with the message of Jesus’ love.
Included in “Generations”, on the opposite side of the campus, is the Chapel. It’s really a spiritual icon. This simple, quiet place will welcome people to do business with God through life’s joys and through life’s pain.
We’re going to need to work hard. So I’m asking you to enter into this with a sense of commitment. First, a commitment to pray. Then a commitment to the students. And then a commitment to make Mariners Church a place where students can hear about Jesus. I am so thankful for God’s faithfulness. I believe God wants to use us to “leave no doubt” of our commitment to reach students for Jesus."
